Worzel Gummidge: The Green Man Review

Compared to the previous episode, The Green Man is a huge improved to The Scarecrow of Scatterbrook. This is due to The Green Man has a better story to follow and is more emotional yet humorous too. In this episode, we are introduced to the creator of scarecrows called The Green Man, who isn’t happy that Worzel has been coming to lie and talking to humans.

We see in this episode, Worzel played by Mackenzie Crook try to enter a scarecrow competition but he isn’t being careful as other humans apart from Susan and John are noticing him when he is alive. This episode has a star cast from Sir Michael Palin who plays The Green Man himself in this powerful character. We also meet Zoe Wanamaker in this episode who has become the local lady of the manor with whom Worzel takes tea with, despite him having no way to absorb the liquid he is given. Finally, we see Colin Michael Carmichael as Soggy Bogart, the leather-jacketed leader of the scarecrow biker gang.

This episode has a great cast thus we have really good performances that we want to watch. It is really interesting to watch the relationship between Crook and Palin's characters, as we see how superior The Green Man is and how much power and control, he has over the scarecrows, especially Worzel. Scenes between Crook and Palin are particular highlights of this episode as they have great chemistry together on screen.

It is quite noticeable that Worzel doesn’t much like a traditional scarecrow, especially because of his face. Many viewers have complained that Worzel's turnip head makes him look a lot like Freddy Krueger from A Nightmare on Elm Street. Overall, each episode has looked amazing but I think the mark has been missed with the appearance and look of Worzel.

The previous episode was quite boring even though the aesthetics looked really good while The Green Man is more complex, in a good way, so we want to keep watching and see what may happen. What both these episodes do but especially this final episode is hint that children are the future who can change the world for the better, especially when it comes to nature and wildlife. In a time where climate change and the future of our world is so important, this message is very valid and increasingly more important as things have been getting worst.

The Green Man is a vast improvement to The Scarecrow of Scatterbrook. This episode is charming and witty while still putting across a really important message which is clear to understand. This episode is a lot more complex than the last but that works in its favour to make it more interesting and entertaining to watch.
