The War of the Worlds, Episode 2 Review

Episode 1 we saw the introduction of Amy and George. We got a glimpse of their relationship and the issues they were facing. At the end of this episode, strange meteors crash into the earth which are later revealed to be android machines inside who have come from Mars. At the end we also learn Amy is pregnant and we see the son she has.

The second episode begins in the future with Amy and George Jr looking for her partner. We get to see a glimpse of what the Earth has become since the invasion. The Martians are nowhere to be seen; thus, they must have died but humanity still survive, only just! Food is running out and people are losing hope because instead of singing 'God Save The King', the survivors are singing 'God Save Us All'. This shows how low spirits are but people still want to survive but their chances look bleak. Along with this, it is interesting to notice that Amy is the only one with a child, as no one else is able to conceive. As a result, the people left may be survivors but they can't recreate therefore the human species will end with them.

In this episode we are constantly jumping from the future back to the days just after the Martians have landed. In the scenes days after the Martians have landed, we see everyone running for their lives, just trying to survive whoever these invaders are. Amy and George are finally reunited and we see them on the run, just trying to survive; on the hunt for shelter, food and water.

Along with seeing Amy and George reunite, we see a relationship form between Amy and Frederick (George's brother) which is a nice change to see. This relationship has defiantly improved but this also due to the fact that Frederick wants Amy to survive so his family lines carries on. It is quite bittersweet as it as if Frederick knows that he might not survive this invasion.

Performances overall are great throughout, we really feel for the characters, this is to the credit of the cast. We feel Amy's pain as she is almost heartbroken at the potential loss of George at the beginning but then when in the future, we feel her pain as she can't find her partner and feels bad that her son misses her dad.

A lot of questions are still left unanswered by the end of this episode, and with only one episode left a lot will be revealed in this final episode. We have been told that there are lots of twists and turns that maybe we won’t expect and that makes this series exciting to watch. We finally will get to see the real Martian form in this final episode and it'll be interesting to see what they look like. Overall, the special effects throughout all these episodes are amazing and very convincing. As a result, there are high expectations for this final episode!
