The ABC Murders Review

Updated: Sep 12, 2019

Murders, Poirot and his unexpected past. This is defiantly something different and interesting to watch!

It’s Christmas time and Agatha Christie is back with another murder mystery with Hercule Poirot. This is a three-part special, that has been on the BBC over the Christmas period. These episodes are now are on iPlayer and definitely worth a watch. It’s something a bit different to watch, it can be a bit gruesome at times when it comes to the murders taking place but it’s exciting viewing. Full of twists and turns; this is a classic Agatha Christie story as not everything is what it seems. You are left wanting to know more after each episode.

Hercule Poirot is back with another murder to solve but this time, there is a twist. Letters have been sent to Poirot for a few weeks; when the murders started happening the culprit behind them was sending letters to Poirot telling him exactly what they were going to do and when, we just didn’t know why until the finale. We learn more about Poirot's past and who is was before he came to England. This is due to the fact that there is no evidence of Poirot from Belgium and we find out he wasn’t a policemen or detective in Belgium. We keep seeing the same montage throughout all three episodes, with us finding more out with each episode and at the end we finally discover the shocking past of Poirot and who is vow to the dead is really for. However, this creation of a backstory for him has been controversial among Agatha Christie fans but I'll let you decide for yourself whether this was needed or not.

Rupert Grint plays Inspector Crome this character is very stern and thinks he’s knows best. Originally, he doesn't want Poirot's help and doesn’t trust him as there is no evidence of Poirot in Belgium. This character shows Grint in a different light as he is a playing a different character, we haven’t seen him play before.

There are four different murders throughout the three episodes, we believe we know who the murderer is after the first episode, yet really not everything is what it seems. The audience get tricked into believing who the murderer is then we all get surprised when someone else is found out. This three-part series is worth a watch whether you’re a murder mystery fan or just want to watch something a bit different for a change.
