Only Murders in the Building S2E5 (2022) Review

In this fifth episode, Oliver’s son Will finally learns the truth about himself. Something that has also been kept hidden from Oliver himself all these years.

It was nice to see more of the father and son relationship between Oliver and Will. Through a series of flashbacks we are taken back to the1970s and we watch Oliver who is successful at a game he invented. However, it is quite sad that we learn the true parentage of Will and it isn't Oliver. Instead, Teddy Dimas is Will’s real father. I wonder if this will affect their relationship or will we see Will again as technically, Oliver isn’t his child anymore.

This is going to affect Oliver, and it’s an interesting turn of the writers to make. Although, it shows that these characters are flawed, and don't have perfect lives. Which then makes them a little more relatable and fun to watch.

Yet back in the present Charles goes and sees Jan in prison to get her thoughts on the killer. It is interesting that Jan thinks that the killer will be something the artist likes. Therefore, they are someone who won’t leave their masterpiece unfinished.

It was surprising to see Jan making a pass at Charles, but it is clear there are still feelings between these two characters. They did have a very passionate relationship, and it seems as if these two characters would be meant for one another. Yet I do wonder if Charles could ever forgive and forget.

Mable and Alice are back in this episode. Alice asks Mabel to host a get-together in her apartment. During this, Mabel discovers a secret door that connects to the secret passageway. I am surprised that Mabel only just discovered this door considering how long she had been living in that apartment. The trio reunites and discusses this new clue.

Both Charles and Oliver invite themselves to Mable's party. It's amusing to see these two try to be normal at a social event. This episode is a big moment for Mable as she introduces Alice to both Oliver and Charles. Alice does her best to convince them that she is not the killer. It would be an interesting twist if, after all this time, it was Alice that was behind it all. Yet that does seem very unlikely, at this point we can't really dismiss anyone.

However, we do reveal that Alice has lied already about where she comes from, but this was to make a name for herself in the art world. Mable does her best to comfort her, and it's clear that there are some strong feelings between Mabel and Alice. Although, I do wonder if they could ever really last?

Finally, we get one last clue in this episode. Oliver witnesses Ivan from the diner placing an envelope full of money under Bunny’s apartment door. Oliver investigates and Ivan reveals all. Oliver learns about the final days of Bunny and how she came to the diner often. She even walked out of the diner with her killer.

Overall, this was a tough episode for fans of Oliver, as he went through a lot, especially as he is normally our comedy relief character. A lot of new clues were revealed in this episode, such as the mystery man and matchbox. Also, it is a strange occurrence that Charles and Jan may be coming back together. Cara Delevingne as Alice is still quite unconvincing and not always the most enjoyable character to watch.

This was a good episode, and all the clues are starting to mount up. Therefore, surely there must be a key breakthrough coming up soon.
