Only Murders In the Building (2022) S2E3 Review

In this third episode, we follow the life of the person’s death we are currently trying to solve and that is Bunny Folger.

This is the episode where we just follow Bunny on the day that she died. It allowed us to witness another side to this character, that maybe a lot of us didn’t expect to see. In addition to that, it's great that Jayne Houdyshell has another moment to shine and showcase what a wonderful actress she is.

It was great we got to see the flip side of Bunny. We have only ever known her as some to dislike as she wasn't always the kindest of our trio. Yet there was another side to her that we have only just gotten to see. It’s true Bunny didn't have the most exciting life, but not everyone's life is super exciting but it is still her life.

Before this episode, you may think it is impossible to become invested in Bunny. We watch her think about moving to Florida, then back out and try to keep her place as board president. Jayne Houdyshell does a fantastic job at making us care about this character, even with her simple life. A lot of heart and warmth were seen and brought to this character, which was a joy to watch. That being said, it now makes her death so much more heartbreaking and tragic.

Truly Bunny had quite a sad life, as she wanted to love but struggled to find it. She always keeps her walls up to protect herself from getting hurt. The interaction between Bunny and Ivan about the waiter was quite interesting. Yet, we are still left wondering why Bunny left all that money to Ivan. We can assume this isn’t the last we have seen of Bunny and maybe there's more to this interaction than we first realise.

This episode really shows how much Bunny wants a connection with someone. The trio may now feel guilty as if only they had invited her in, she may not have been killed. Really, Bunny was a lonely lady that wanted someone in her life. Throughout this episode, we watch Bunny try to reach out to numerous people, but only a small handful ever come back to her.

Although this episode isn't all about Bunny, we get to see Oliver’s son called Will make a comeback. Suddenly he is now walking in his dad’s footsteps and directing a play. I wonder how much involvement Will is going to have in this season considering he has been reintroduced quite early on. It would be nice to see more interactions between Oliver and Will and understand their dynamic a bit more.

In addition to that, the trio's first lead as the suspect of murder is Nin Lin, as she is the new president of the board. Normally, the first suspect is never the true killer, however, they may have had some involvement in Bunny’s death, as Nina wasn’t that broken up when she heard of Bunny’s death.

Overall, this is an extremely strong third episode. It really highlights that every character we see has their own story, even if it's not the most exciting they still have a life. We don't get many clues to who the killer may be, yet that doesn't matter, as learning about Bunny was really interesting. Jayne Houdyshell was perfect in this episode and highlights the importance of offering kindness to anyone we see that may be in need of it.

Episode 3 showcases Bunny's backstory before she died!
