Only Murders In The Building S2E2 (2022) Review

This second episode is all about painting and learning more about Charles' past. In addition to that, we are given a bit of a backstory to the long history that Bunny and the Arconia have shared together.

It was interesting to get a deeper insight into this building, where we spend so much of our time. The building was created by Archibald Carter, and it is him who we can thank for all the secret passageways. We have only seen a couple of passages so far. Therefore, we should expect to see a few more surprises that this building has to offer. It’ll be interesting to see whether Bunny knows about the secret passage behind her closest, and who else knew of it.

Bunny was born and raised and then died in Arconia. However, so much happened in this building. Including the affair, Charles's father had with Leonara (Bunny’s mother) and artist Rose. A clue that was revealed in the previous episode now makes more sense. We get a better understanding of why one of Bunny’s last words was ‘savage’.

The plot of this season is truly complicated, and clearly, there are going to be some surprises along the way. What was nice was that we got to learn more about Charles in this episode, in what his childhood was like. In the previous season, we got a deeper insight into Mabel, so it was nice we got to learn more about Charles.

In this episode, the bubbling romance between Marble and Alice is confirmed. They seem like a strange pairing and yet it works. However, what didn't work was the kiss scene. It felt very unnatural and awkward. Maybe, they should have waited a bit longer, and built up the tension between these characters. The kiss felt rushed and maybe a bit too soon. Possibly that is why it felt awkward to watch.

In the end, we were given three shocks. The first is that the painting is fake, so where is the real painting? While the second is that Bunny and Charles could be siblings. The last shock is that Mrs. Gambolini, Bunny’s bird, knows who the killer is. That was a great way to end an episode, making you want to know what the bird will say next!

This episode brought up a lot more questions that need to be answered. Yet what is clear, is that the painting is the key to the murderer. A lot more focus is going to be put into this painting. What I’m not enjoying about this new season is Amy Schumer’s character. She feels really out of place compared to everyone else. Her character is too over the top and at the moment doesn't add anything to the plot of the mystery. I do wonder why this character has been brought in.

Overall, this second episode is still setting up the mystery, yet a lot has already happened. It’ll be interesting to see where the mystery is going to take us. The trio is still working well in this episode and is quite humorous together. It was great our trio got to be a bit goofy and silly in this episode. As a result, it was a strong episode, but some aspects needed fine-tuning.

A new love interest for Mabel is disocvered in S2E2.
