Here We Go Season 1 (2022) Review

The BBC has been running the trailer, for Here We Go, for a while. It features quite a normal family that is recording their normal day-to-day lives yet things go hilariously wrong. Here We Go, gives off huge My Family vibes. Thus, it is clear, that this show will become a classic comedy sitcom to watch again and again.

The pilot of this show was called Pandemonium, but once it was given the green light, they changed the name to Here We Go. This first season consists of 6 episodes that show a normal family, doing everyday things, but things go slightly more wrong than they would normally do. Hence, it is a classic sitcom for the modern-day.

At the heart of this show, is Sam, the teenager of the family, who is making a documentary about his family, as part of his media coursework. What this means is that we are watching a lot of wonky and shaky footage. However, this also allowed for the actor to improvise and do longer takes to play around with the scene. Which then results in some time jumps, which gives creator Tom Basden and director Will Sinclair time to give the audience more context.

Throughout this first season, we get to learn about 6 very different characters and their everyday frustrations. This includes mum Rachel (Katherine Parkinson), dad Paul (Jim Howick), son Sam (Jude Collie), and daughter Amy (Freya Parks). In addition, we also meet the brother-in-law Robin (creator Tom Basden) and the always-present mother-in-law Sue (Alison Steadman). The whole 6 episodes provide the audience with a really British family that is just about managing everyday life.

Here We Go has been well written, which allows for some funny moments, and other moments that have a lot of heart and warmth. At the heart of this season, is about a normal family that audiences can relate to. All the actors do a great job of embracing their characters and making this show enjoyable to watch.

Overall, this is a really strong sitcom that we can assume will come back for many more seasons in time. The only real downside to this show is the shaky camera work, which makes some scenes a little disorientating to watch. Although the way this show is filmed adds to the realness, as you do feel like the character, Sam is rushing around trying to film his actual family. It is easy to get engrossed in what is happening in each episode.
