Fighting With My Family (2019) Review

Based off a true story, this film follows a family with a passion for wrestling. Produced by Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, who is believed to be inspired to produce this film after watching the Channel 4 document called Fighting with my family from 2004. Not only produced by The Rock but this film was directed by actor and comedian Stephen Merchant. Fighting With My Family shows the life story of Saraya Knight known as Paige, with Nick Frost and Lena Headey as her parents. What this film does is not only show Paige raising to become a famous wrestler but how her family helped and supported her.

It was interesting to watch the relationship between the family but especially between Paige and her brother Zak. Paige and Zak are excited when they receive a once in a life-time opportunity to try out got WWE, however only Paige gets a chance to take part in the training programme. Paige has to leave her family and dig deep to prove to the world that what makes her different is what makes her special and become a famous WWE star. The relationship between Paige and Zak is defiantly a rollercoaster, as they start off really close, yet tension grows once Zak is rejecting and becomes consumed with jealousy. However, the heart of this film is a family who always pull together and support each other.

Not only do we see the raise of Paige, but we also see how wrestling helped the community by keeping children off the streets and causing mischief and avoiding drugs. What this family do but especially Zak is make young people a place to go to have fun which at the same time keeps them safe. Also, we watch Zak train a blind boy who does become the first blind wrestler! This family have made a huge change in the WWE community as Paige developed the quality of women's wrestling in WWE and was a bridge from the Divas era to the current revolution of the Women's Division, which she helped start.

This film is full of emotion from comedic moments to parts where you want to cry. You don’t have to be a WWE fan to enjoy this film. What this film does is show that being different, resilient and following your dreams you can achieve great things. Be true to who you are and what you want. Paige was seen as a different kind of wrestler which they hadn't seen before, and she achieved great things.

Fighting With My Family is a great film for everyone to watch, I can't fault it. It was wonderful to watch, I loved every moment!
