BoJack Horseman Season 6, Part 2 (2020) Review

The second part of this sixth and final season of BoJack Horseman is finally here. There are only eight episodes left of this incredible show.

BoJack who is the former star of the 90s sitcom 'Horsin Around' is voiced for the final time by Will Arnett. BoJack is full of dark sarcasm and regret and guilt. BoJack starts this second part in a good place, he is teaching at Wesleyan University and he is enjoying teaching his students. Although, soon after he receives word that the reporter Paige Sinclair (Paget Brewster) is working on an expose about an awful act he did in his past. Neither of BoJack's closest friends, Diane (Alison Brie) and his agent, Princess Carolyn (Amy Sedaris) will let him play the victim. He owns up to his mistakes and apologises throughout these final eight episodes, with and without success.

These final eight episodes don't just focus on BoJack, we spend just as much time with Diana who is adjusting to taking antidepressants and living with her boyfriend in Chicago. While living in Chicago she is attempting to write a book, she struggles to begin with as she doesn’t know what to write but once she starts and grows a connection with a certain character, she discovers that she is actually quite a good writer. Diane's struggle with depression is handled with humour in a brief, upbeat musical sequence as well as great care and sincerity.

There are many visual gags running throughout all the seasons and in these final episodes. The central message of BoJack Horseman is we all have animal instincts yet we try to repeatedly overcome them but sometimes we need extra hands to help us overcome them and get back onto the ground. These final episodes have quite sweet in moments but it does really feel like the end. The last episode in particular is a great way to say goodbye to these characters and this show. We can clearly see how far BoJack, Diane, Mr Peanutbutter, Todd and Princess Carolyn have come in these six seasons. In the end, once the credits roll on episode sixteen, we feel satisfied that this is the end.

Overall, these final eight episodes are perfect, we see how far our cast have come, how they have changed for the better and how these relationships with each other have evolved. BoJack has many ups and downs throughout this show but at least he gets to end with him knowing who he wants to be, what he wants to do and is loved by all the people that really matte to him. He is now a better man/ horseman. The final song brings so much emotion as we just see Diane and BoJack sat on the roof looking at the stars both at peace with their lives and accepting who they are, a great ending to a great story.

Diane and BoJack sat on the roof for the final time.
