Avengers: Endgame (2019) Review

The hype for this film was huge and everyone has massive expectations for this film. After watching it I can definitely say this film lives up to all those expectations and is even better than you could have imagine.

Ashes to ashes, dust to dust is a phrase that implies really well to this film. Living in a world where Thanos has destroyed half the population, our remaining heroes must deal with the loss of their friends and family or they must find a way to bring everyone back.

In Endgame it is literally the Endgame for some of our beloved characters, full of laughs, epic battles and tears. Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk/Bruce Banner, Black Widow, Captain Marvel, Hawkeye, Ant-Man, Rocket and Nebula are the survivors of Thanos and struggling to cope with the world they now live in. Our heroes try and find a way to reverse what was done.

Without giving away any spoilers, there are moments in this film which are incredibly emotional or empowering and a tear or two may have been shed. We always knew we would be saying goodbye to at least two characters due to the actors not wanting to do any more films and obviously this was Iron Man and Captain America. Without giving away too much, both these goodbyes were emotional. It was lovely to see the journey Tony Stark has come on and, in the end, it was so sad when he leaves us but he will always remain a hero!

Out of these two goodbyes Stark's goodbye was more emotional for me however Captain America's goodbye was full of emotion too, he finally got to get his dance with his girl. The passing on of his shield was an epic moment and opens up possibilities. These two moments in the film defiantly brought a tear to everyone's eye. Therefore, we have now lost Iron Man and Captain America and we also loose someone else. There is an unexpected loss which I wasn’t ready for and didn’t see coming. There were gasps in the cinema when this was revealed, no one was ready for this goodbye.

What was great to see in this film was the relationship between Black Widow and Hawkeye. We know Hawkeye was missing from Infinity War, but he makes up for it with Endgame. Black Widow and Hawkeye have great chemistry when onscreen with each other. They help each other out and help each other when they are at their lowest by giving each other hope. These two would die for each other, the scenes they shared together was delightful to watch.

Marvel are known for great battle sequences and clearly there were some great ones in this film. The final battle scene of a film is always the biggest and best and that’s defiantly the case in Endgame too. I had goose bumps and chills watching this final battle scene. It was iconic! Nothing can match what happens in this scene, it was on the edge of your seat viewing.

What was most surprising was seeing how Thor handled the events after Infinity War. Thor brought humour to this film in unexpected ways and we found out what Thor really wants in life. Thor has gone through a lot of loss throughout this franchise and we see how this has affected him. Like other characters we see the change these characters have gone through and how this has affected them.

This film is amazing and what a superhero film should be like. Marvel have outdone themselves; this was an amazing film which can’t be beaten. This will be in the top 10 greatest films; I can’t fault this film. Even though it is about 3 hours it doesn’t feel long and every second is pure joy to watch. Phrase 3 of the Marvel Universe is now at an end and this was the best way to end this phrase of the Marvel Universe we love. We have watched these characters throughout the past 21 films and now Endgame (22nd film) has shown how much our beloved heroes have grown and changed especially the original Avengers (Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk and Black Widow). Goodbyes were said which were extremely emotional to watch but these are our heroes which won’t ever be forgotten. It is difficult to talk about this film without spoiling anything, but Endgame was worth the wait and a joy to watch; this film will never be forgotten and will always be amazing.
